What is Christian Science?
Christian Science, as discovered by Mary Baker Eddy, refers to the universal, practical system of spiritual, prayer-based healing, available and accessible to everyone. Churches have been established throughout the world by those who have found fresh hope, inspiration, and healing in Christian Science.
- Christian Science is fully explained in Eddys primary text on spirituality and healing, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
- It is practiced by people of many different denominations and faith traditions, as well as those with no faith tradition. Membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is not a prerequisite for the practice of Christian Science.
- It is a means of spiritual care through which individuals have found better emotional and physical health, answers to lifes deepest issues and progress on their spiritual journeys. Healthcare decisions are always a matter of individual choice.
- It's basic ideas include:
- God is divine Love, Father-Mother, supreme.
- The true nature of each individual as a child of God is spiritual.
- Gods infinite goodness, realized in prayer, heals.

What is the attitude of Christian Scientists toward medicine?
Christian Scientists have found that healing through spiritual means is entirely practical. So while they respect the dedication and skill of doctors in working for humanity, it is their own conviction, based on experience, that both physical and moral healing is to be found in prayer, in a new understanding of man as the expression of God.
They rely on the healing power of God as made practical by the Science of Christianity.

What is a Christian Science Practitioner?
Christian Science Practitioners are available to help bring healing to others through prayer. These spiritually experienced individuals can also answer questions about the benefits that come from exploring and practicing Christian Science. Christian Science practitioners set their own fees for help through prayer, which is called Christian Science treatment.
They use Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as their primary resource for helping others.
Practitioners are listed in a directory in The Christian Science Journal, published monthly, and the various language editions of The Herald of Christian Science. These publications are available at our Christian Science Reading Room.
